Luckily, IPv6 addresses can and should be written in simplified form (abbreviated/compressed), which is faster and easier to read. IPv6 addresses are represented as eight groups of four hexadecimal (0-9, a-f) characters with the groups being separated by colons, for example: IPv6 was developed to deal with the problem of running out of available IPv4 address space and is intended to replace IPv4 (IPv6 is 7.9×1028 times bigger than the 4.3 billion addresses provided by IPv4!).
